Which timesheet template do you need?
Pick the one that matches how you report your hours. Weekly suits most hourly jobs and freelancers who invoice every week. Monthly suits payroll that runs once a month. The project sheet suits anyone who bills clients or reports hours per project.
| Template | Best for | What it adds up |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly timesheet | Hourly work, weekly invoices | Hours per day and per week |
| Monthly timesheet | Monthly payroll or reports | Hours per day and per month |
| Project timesheet | Client work, project reports | Hours per task, per day and in total |
How to fill in the weekly timesheet
- Type your name, and the client or team you report to.
- Enter the first day of the week. The dates for the other six days fill in on their own.
- For each day, enter the start and end time (for example 09:00 and 17:30) and your unpaid break in minutes.
- The Hours column shows the time worked, and the total at the bottom adds up the week.
The formula handles shifts past midnight: 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours. Leave a day blank and it counts as zero.
Free printable time sheets
If you would rather fill in hours by hand, print the blank weekly timesheet straight from this page. It has columns for day, start, end, break and hours, plus a name, the week and a total line. In the print dialog you can choose Save as PDF instead of a printer and send the file on.
What goes on an employee timesheet?
An employee timesheet needs the employee’s name, the date, start and end times, unpaid breaks, the hours worked each day and the weekly total. In the US, employers must keep records of the hours non-exempt employees work each workday and workweek (U.S. Department of Labor, Fact Sheet #21, as of October 2026).
The weekly and monthly templates have all of these fields and a signature line, so they work as a simple employee time tracking spreadsheet. This is not legal advice: check your state’s rules. For teams that work at computers, employee time tracking can record the hours instead.
How the monthly and project sheets work
On the monthly sheet you enter the first day of the month. It lists every date of that month and leaves the rest blank, so February stops at the 28th or 29th.
The project sheet works the other way round. Each row is a project and a task, each column is a day, and you type the hours into the cells. Totals appear at the end of each row and at the bottom of each day.
Rather not fill in a timesheet at all?
A template only knows what you remember to type in. TimeUno records the apps and sites you work in and puts the time under your projects on its own. At the end of the week it builds the timesheet from that tracked time, and you export it as CSV.
It also tracks time spent with AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor, even while they run in the background. That time shows up next to yours, per project.

Questions people ask
How do I calculate hours on a timesheet?
Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract unpaid breaks. 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours. The templates do this in the Hours column, including shifts that end after midnight.
Can I use these templates in Google Sheets?
Yes. In Google Sheets, choose File, then Import, and upload the .xlsx file. The formulas carry over. Numbers and LibreOffice open the files directly.
Is there a PDF version?
Use the Print a blank timesheet button on this page and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. You get a one-page weekly sheet to fill in by hand.
Does TimeUno have a free plan?
No. The templates on this page are free. The TimeUno app has a 14-day trial, then costs $14.99 a month, or $10.49 a month billed yearly.
