AI tool tracking: what TimeUno sends
TimeUno tracks when your AI tools are working, waiting for you or done, including in background terminals and tabs, so you can see what your AI did while you did something else. For an overview, see how TimeUno tracks time spent with AI coding tools.
Supported tools
- On your computer (desktop app): Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot, the Claude desktop app (Windows and macOS), Windsurf, Aider, Ollama, Gemini CLI, oh-my-pi and Pi.
- In the browser (extension): claude.ai, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, v0, Grok, Bolt, Lovable and Replit.
- On a remote server: Claude Code, Cursor CLI, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Aider, Ollama, oh-my-pi and Pi, with the headless agent.
What it sends
From the tools on your computer and servers: when a session starts and ends, whether the AI is working or waiting, the model, token counts and cost, the project folder and the task details below. Your prompts, the AI’s answers and your code never leave your device.
If you turn on Match AI chats to projects (off by default), TimeUno matches chat text to your projects on your device and sends only the matching project.
In the browser, the extension reads the page like any other site, so the page text it sends from an AI chat includes your prompts and the AI’s answers. Turn that off under Settings → Read on-screen text.
Not every tool exposes all of that. For Aider, Windsurf and Ollama, TimeUno sees only whether they’re active (for Ollama, which models are loaded), so there’s no token count or cost for them.
Tests plant marker text in place of prompts and answers, and fail our build if any of it shows up in what the integrations send, task details included.
Screenshots and on-screen text are separate and can include whatever is on screen, a prompt included. See Pause and capture settings.
Task details
So your timesheet lines can say what you worked on, the desktop app and the headless agent also send:
- the title the AI tool itself gave the session;
- the kind of task (fix, build, test, docs…) and the area it touched (billing, login…), picked on your device from a fixed list, never in your words;
- the paths of the files the AI edited, relative to the project folder;
- the subjects of the commits the AI made;
- on a server with the headless agent’s shell hook, the folder and name of each command you run, plus its first word for a few tools like git, npm, make or docker (
git push,docker compose), never the rest of the line, and only names that resolve to a real command.
Anything in a title or commit subject that looks like a key or token is replaced with [redacted], on your device and again on our server.
To stop sending task details, turn off Settings → Your data → Share task details. The details already stored are deleted, and your apps stop sending them at their next check-in. TimeUno still tracks the time; your lines are just described from less.
